Optic Neuritis

Optic neuritis is optic nerve inflammation that causes subacute loss of vision in that eye. There is pain with eye movement. Although optic neuritis can be isolated, it is often a symptom of an underlying CNS autoimmune or demyelinating process. Prognosis depends on the underlying etiology. High dose glucocorticoids speeds up recovery of inflammation, but has no long term benefit.
